Spelling

Spelling lists come from the reading language program and are associated with the stories we are reading in whole group reading, although many of the words do not necessarily appear in the stories. Approximately every sixth week is a review week or a week we work on frequently used words which all second graders should know.  Students will have a spelling list to study each week that has four or more school days. A pretest is given on Monday or the first day of the week. Students are given an individualized list showing which words were missed on the pretest.  If less than six words were missed, students will be assigned extra words from their writings or which have related spelling patterns. The final test is given on Friday or the last day of the school week. A record is kept of words missed by individual students and may appear again on future lists as additional words or on review lists. Words and the stories they go with are shown below. Lists of everyday words are not shown.
