As you are aware, a solar eclipse is to occur on Monday, August 21, 2017. I wanted to let you know that we will NOT be viewing the eclipse with any type of glasses as we do not have glasses that are approved. We will NOT be outside during our lunch recess periods. Classroom teachers may decide to take their students outside to view the eclipse through a view box or to experience whatever darkness may occur during the event. We will be telling students to NOT look at the sun or in the direction of the eclipse.
While this is a special and rare event, our students’ safety is always our first priority and that has been considered throughout the decision making process in this situation. Teachers will likely be sharing some information about the eclipse in their classroom during the school day. This may include videos or possible live feed of the eclipse.
Thank you for your understanding and support of this decision.
